Free VPNs With Servers in Germany (100% Free Options)

Germany is a large country with a substantial population and high internet use, and is also one of the major tourist destinations of Europe. Therefore there is plenty of need for the strong, encrypted secure internet connections that a good VPN can provide.

There are countless paid VPN services that all have servers in Germany, but are there any good, usable free VPN options that also have servers in Germany? Can you easily get an IP address in Germany for free?

As per usual for the entire topic of free VPN options, the current search results on this are poor and low-relevance, returning results to VPN services that are not actually free, or don’t have free German servers, or single companies promoting their own product only.

In this article, I’ll stay as relevant as possible by listing only VPN options that are both 100% free to use, and have servers specifically in Germany that can be used on their free versions, with a good data allowance. In this way, I hope my content is more useful than some other search results on this topic.

Here’s a quick summary of your main free German VPN options:

  1. PrivadoVPN free version (10 GB of data/month)
  2. ZoogVPN (10 GB of data/month)
  3. Hide.me free version (10 GB of data/month)
  4. Windscribe free version (10 GB of data/month)

Let’s look at each of these free VPN options with servers in Germany in more detail.

Free VPN Option #1 – PrivadoVPN Free (10 GB data cap)

PrivadoVPN are another newer VPN service that I only recently came across, that also offer a free version with a server in Germany.

Here are some features of PrivadoVPN free version:

  • 10 GB data use per month on the free plan
  • Free servers in 8 countries and 12 locations on the free plan – including Germany (Frankfurt)
  • Other free server locations – USA (New York, Washington DC, Miami, Los Angeles), UK, Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, France, Switzerland, India, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina
  • Strict zero logs policy, even on the free version
  • Based in Switzerland with strong privacy laws
  • 1 connection allowed on free version
  • Apps for all major devices.
  • Email address only required to get free version.
  • Paid plans start at $5/month for a 12 month subscription, with servers in 48 countries.

Free VPN Option #2 – ZoogVPNFree (10 GB data cap)

Update – ZoogVPN recently removed Germany from their free server, so this option for the time being at least no longer works. I’ll keep an eye on their service to see if they restore their free Germany server, but for now it’s been taken down.

Greece based ZoogVPN are a newcomer to this list, and they’re an excellent free VPN option.

Here are the main features of ZoogVPN Free:

  • 10 GB of data to use per month
  • Servers in Germany (Dusseldorf – recently taken down unfortunately), plus UK, USA, Netherlands
  • No payment or payment details required
  • Zero logs also on the free version
  • Great value Premium plans available with servers in 41 countries.

Free VPN Option #3 – Hide.me (10 GB/month)

This is the second best free VPN option I could find that also has servers in Germany. Hide.me are a Malaysian based, well established VPN company that have been around since 2012. Their main product is their Premium VPN service, but they do also offer a free version of their product, that specifically has servers in Germany.

Here are the key benefits of Hide.me:

  • Totally free to sign up, with no details needed – just download the app and start.
  • Free version offers a server in Germany, as well as Netherlands, Canada, USA, UK, France (random server selection).
  • 10 GB monthly data allowance on the free version. This is very generous for a free VPN. Once you breach this, you won’t be disconnected, but will connect to a random free server instead, which won’t be in Germany.
  • Strict zero logs policy, including on the free version. No user data collected or stored.
  • Fast servers
  • Paid version also offers competitive plans, with servers in 50 countries

It’s a great option if you specifically want a VPN that can give you an IP address in Germany, but on the downside, the free version doesn’t offer any streaming support, so you might not be able to get it to work with streaming services like Netflix (you might do with some persistence, but no way close to guaranteed). You might get better luck trying a Premium VPN for this (see the very last section at the bottom).

Also, you can’t manually choose free server locations – you just get randomly connected the current “best” server. So you have to keep connecting again and again until it randomly picks the Germany server for you.

Free VPN Option #4 – Windscribe (10 GB/month)

This is yet another free VPN that offers a free version with 10 GB a month usage, plus a server in Germany.

Here are some features of Windscribe free version:

  • 10 GB data use per month on the free plan
  • Free servers in 10 countries including Germany
  • Other free server locations –USA, UK, Canada, Hong Kong, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Norway, Romania.
  • Strict zero logs policy, even on the free version
  • Canadian based company.
  • Unlimited connections allowed even on free version
  • Apps for all major devices.
  • Only an Email address required to get free version.
  • Paid plans start at $4/month for a 12 month subscription.

Click here to get started with Windscribe– go to their Features page and select their Free Plan.

With 4 of these 10 GB/month free VPN options, you can combine them all to get a total of 40 GB monthly data using a German IP address, for free.

Some Premium VPN Options With German Servers

If at some point you decide you’d like to use a VPN in more locations and have unlimited use and better support, you might want to consider upgrading to a paid VPN plan. German users are spoiled for choice here, because there are literally hundreds to choose from, all with servers there.

Firstly, TurboVPN, Hide.me, PrivadoVPN and Tunnelbear both have Premium plans (with more countries/servers and unlimited use) you can upgrade to for very reasonable prices.

However, we’ve also listed some other Premium VPN services for you to browse through, that also offer German  servers (all Premium VPN’s offer IP addresses in Germany), plus unlimited use and 24/7 support.
