It’s actually quite difficult to find free VPN’s specifically with servers in the UK that you can use on the free version, that you don’t have to pay for. Most VPN’s only offer UK servers on their paid plans, and popular destinations for free servers are the USA or the Netherlands, plus sometimes somewhere in Asia.
However, if you scout around a bit, you can find some free VPN options that do have UK servers you can use for free.
Here’s a quick summary:

- Windscribe – Free UK server, 10 GB monthly data
- Tunnelbear – Free London server, 500 MB monthly data
We’ll look at each option in more detail, but for a quick bottom line answer, PrivadoVPN‘s free offering is the best for those looking for UK servers, with the biggest data allowance but also the full privacy of a Premium VPN.
Let’s look at all these options in more depth.
Free Option #1 – PrivadoVPN Free Version
This is realistically the best option I could find for people looking for a free to use UK IP address. PrivadoVPN have a very good free version of their service, that specifically includes a free UK server.

If would be better if data use was unlimited on the free version, but 10 GB/month is still a really good allowance, and equates to about 300 MB/day.
Option #2 – ZoogVPN Free Version (10 GB/Month)
This is a new addition to the list, because I recently found it and it works in much the same way as PrivadoVPN. They’re a Greek based VPN provider that offer an excellent free version of their product.
Here’s your main bullet points for ZoogVPN:
- Only an email needed to sign up
- 10 GB of data per month on the free version
- Free servers in London, UK, Washington DC, Amsterdam, Singapore and Dusseldorf, Germany.
- Acceptable server speed and reliability
- Straightforward, easy to use interface.
- Excellent value Premium plans also, with servers in 41 countries.

Free Option #3 – Windscribe Free Version (10 GB/Month)
This is basically almost identical to the two options above. Windscribe are another Premium VPN provider who also offer a limited free version that has servers in the UK.

This is a great option you can use to double up with PrivadoVPN, to get a combined 20 GB of free monthly browsing with a masked UK IP address, for free. When your quota on one free service runs out, switch to another one. 20 GB will go a long way for a lot of users.
Free Option #4 – Tunnelbear Free Version (500 MB/Month)
The next best free VPN option with UK servers I could find is third by quite a long way. Tunnelbear do offer a limited free version of their program, which looks and feels like a real, secure VPN, but it only offers 500 MB of data use per month, which is not much at all in today’s world.

The Free plan is buried away somewhat in the menus and not heavily promoted, as for obvious reasons, they’d prefer customers used paid plans, but you can still find it by clicking back to the homepage and finding the Plans page.
Tunnelbear’s got servers in 49 countries, including in the UK (London), so it can be a great option for short term/basic usage.
However, with the free version, you only get 500 MB of data to use per month, which won’t go far at all even for basic browsing. You can tweet at them for an extra 1 GB, but this is your main limitation with this service – you don’t get much data/bandwidth to use. Once you open the interface, there is a data counter so you can see how you’ve got left this month.
Some VPNs That DON’T Really Offer Free UK Servers
When I checked the search results on this topic (free VPN with UK server), the results were not great, pretty low relevance and not accurate.
Let’s clarify this by correcting some incorrect information that’s appearing near the top of the search results for this query:
- ProtonVPN – Offer a great free unlimited VPN, but free servers are in USA, Netherlands and Japan. They DON’T have a free UK server; you need one of their paid plans for that.
- NordVPN – Offer a great Premium VPN service – one of the very best with lots of countries and double encryption, but they don’t offer ANY free servers, in the UK or elsewhere. You have to pay to use their service.
- Hide.me – Again offer a great free version of their service which we’ve covered elsewhere, with free servers in Germany, USA, Canada, Netherlands, but NOT in the UK. UK servers are on their paid plans only.
A lot of VPN marketing and search results equates them having a 30 day money back guarantee to being effectively “free”, because you can pay for a month, and then claim a refund if you don’t like it.
Whilst it’s a nice feature many VPN’s offer now, that’s not my definition of “free”. In this post, I’ve tried to keep it relevant and accurate by including ONLY VPN options which a) Are 100% free to sign up to and use, ZERO upfront payment, and b) Have 100% free UK servers that can be used on their free versions.
Some Premium VPN Options With UK Servers
Given the limitations (either data use or privacy) of the free UK VPN options we’ve given you so far, it’s fair to say that if you want a complete VPN option with everything you want (unlimited use, 24/7 customer support, plus zero log privacy), then you’ll need to pay for a Premium service.
The good news is that there are literally hundreds of paid VPN services out there now, and all of them offer servers in the UK.
Firstly, PrivadoVPN and Tunnelbear both have Premium plans (with more countries/servers and unlimited use) you can upgrade to for very reasonable prices.
